In 2006, our team was instrumental in not only handling the pre-leasing of Park West, but also finding the land for the client. The client wanted to develop a retail center with a similar feel to that of Scottsdale's Kierland Commons. We studied the Phoenix market looking for the right location where the surrounding demographic could support quality retailers and restaurants. The land at Park West sits just over 8 miles south of Arrowhead Mall, which is the only mall of any substance west of 24th Street in the entire Valley. At the time, Arrowhead Mall was almost 100% leased and had no space for the ideal first round of retailers for a lifestyle center. We were successful over the next few years with leases that included; Chico's, Brighton Collectibles, Coldwater Creek, J Jill, and many others. However, due to the economy collapse of 2008/2009 many of the ideal co-tenants refused to move forward and the center opened with half of the executed leases. Since then, Park West has sold a handful of times and is now a thriving shopping and dining destination for the West Valley.
